🔶Perpetrator of Munich attack sentenced to life imprisonment

Farhad Nouri, an Afghan refugee and the perpetrator of the Munich attack who, in February 2025, drove a car into a protest gathering of the United Public Services Union (ver.di), has been sentenced by the state court to life imprisonment. The 25-year-old man was convicted of two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted murder.

According to the announcement of the state supreme court, his “special gravity of the offense and criminal responsibility” has been established. As legal experts say, this makes Farhad Nouri’s conditional release considerably more difficult, because the court assessed the severity of the crime, the motive, the method of commission, and its consequences so heavily that the convicted person typically cannot be freed from life imprisonment merely after serving 15 years.

The court also said it is convinced that the person intentionally drove into the line of protesters from the rear with his car. Michael Hohne, the presiding judge of the court, confirmed this in relation to the matter, saying: “The scene of the crime, in an area 12 meters wide and 23 meters long, had been entirely turned into a pile of rubble.”
