Prince Reza Pahlavi, in a message, said that no decision regarding Iran’s resources, borders, and rights in the maritime space will be legitimate without the consent and real participation of the Iranian people, and Iran’s rights in the Caspian Sea cannot be negotiated or waived.

Prince Reza Pahlavi wrote: “In a period of severe structural weakness and a legitimacy crisis, the Islamic Republic intends to advance and implement the legal regime convention of the Caspian Sea (the Aktau Convention) of the regime.”

He added that, based on the 1921 and 1940 treaties between Iran and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the legal regime of the Caspian Sea had been formed on the basis of the joint rights of the parties and the principle of agreement and shared interests.

Prince Reza Pahlavi also wrote: “This is a dangerous innovation that, by bypassing the principle of consensus of all riparian countries, in practice undermines Iran’s historical standing and reduces the role of the country in determining the fate of the Caspian Sea.”

Prince Reza Pahlavi announced: “My position on the current process is the same. I consider the Islamic Republic’s efforts to pass this convention to be an action contrary to Iran’s national interests.”
