🔶 Principalist lawmaker: Rising gasoline prices are like a spark in a powder keg

Hossein Samsemi, a member of the Economic Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, said that raising gasoline prices to 87,000 tomans is “the peak of recklessness” by the government of Pezeshkian. In an interview with the Khabaronline website, he said: «These crude plans create public confusion. Raising gasoline prices in the current conditions is like a spark in a powder keg.»

In line with his remarks, Samsemi said that “equating justice and equality” would be wrong and added: «These gentlemen [government officials] think that justice always means equality. Why should we give each person a gasoline ration or a fixed amount? The one who doesn’t use it and doesn’t need it—why should they receive a ration?»

He warned about possible protests and unrest regarding changes to gasoline and the consequences of increasing the fuel price for consumption, saying: «Those who are using gasoline right now and actually need it—like Snapp and taxis and many of these people who truly had to go for such things—well, these services will be shut down. They will come out into the streets.»
