🔸 Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman said on Tuesday that the Qatari government considers the new U.S. sanctions against Iran to be «unilateral», but that Doha supports the continuation of mediation efforts to resolve the dispute between the United States and Iran.
🔸 Although Qatar has been targeted by missiles from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in recent months, along with Pakistan and Turkey it has tried to bring Tehran and Washington closer through mediation.
🔸 Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said on Monday, September 2, in a press conference about the new campaign of pressure on Iran: «Around the world, our goal is to cut off all the economic arteries that keep this authoritarian government up and running, until Tehran is completely left alone.»
🔸 However, it appears that alongside the renewed economic pressure, efforts to mediate are also continuing. On Monday, the commander of Pakistan’s army went to Tehran, and on Tuesday, Oman’s foreign minister attended to meet with officials of the Islamic Republic in the Iranian capital.
