Reports published by maritime intelligence companies show that the oil tanker seized by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Strait of Hormuz is not owned by the United Arab Emirates.

This tanker, which is very small and carried oil products under the name “Amara,” was owned by India. It sailed in the Strait of Hormuz under a Liberian flag, with its automatic identification system turned on. At the time of the seizure by the IRGC, the tanker—capable of carrying only 45,000 tons of oil products—was empty.

Bloomberg News also, after confirming that the small tanker was empty, reported that since entering the Strait of Hormuz, the vessel had changed its route at least five times and returned, and ultimately was seized by the IRGC in the waters around Iran’s Qeshm Island.
