Reuters, citing informed sources, reported that Xi Jinping, the President of China, during his trip to Washington this week, is expected to urge Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to stop selling weapons to Taiwan and, in return, to propose offering help in exerting pressure on the Islamic Republic regarding the war in the Middle East.

One of the sources told Reuters that Xi may “emphasize to Trump that Taiwan is the provocateur and the only source of instability in U.S.-China relations, and that it is Taiwan that changes the status quo.”

Reuters sources added that in exchange for halting U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, China has proposed offering help to exert pressure on Iran regarding the war in the Middle East.
