🔻The security adviser to Iraq’s prime minister said that the September 30 (8 Mehr) deadline—which had been set for the delivery of weapons of groups close to Iran—was a deadline for the withdrawal of the forces of the coalition led by the United States. Iraq is under pressure from the United States to rein in armed groups, especially groups close to Iran.

The Iraqi government stressed its own deadline, but yesterday Qasim al-Araji, the security adviser to the prime minister, told the al-Iraqiya television network: “September 30 is the date for the departure of the international coalition, not the deadline for the delivery of weapons.” His reference was to the alliance of forces led by the United States.

Haider al-Obeidi, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, also made similar remarks in local media on Friday.
