🔸 Several countries condemned Colombia’s action in recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan

Kuwait condemned the decision by the Colombian government to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and said it violates international law and UN Security Council resolutions. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday, August 11 (21 Mordad), that the Golan Heights are part of Syrian territory that is under occupation, and that Kuwait rejects any move aimed at legitimizing the occupation of this region.

The ministry called “the acquisition of land by force” unacceptable and said Colombia’s decision is contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 497 adopted in 1981, in which Israel’s annexation of the Golan is described as “null and void” and lacking any legal validity.

Earlier, Turkey, Syria, and Oman had also condemned Colombia’s decision by issuing separate statements.

In the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured the Syrian Golan Heights and, in 1981, annexed the region to its own territory. The international community has not recognized that annexation to date.
