The European Union announced that it regrets Washington’s decision not to grant visas to officials of the Palestinian Authority for a second consecutive year.

Anwar Al-Aouni, spokesperson for the European Union’s diplomatic service, said: “Given the agreements that the United States has with the United Nations regarding its headquarters and its commitments as the host country, we ask the United States to reconsider this decision.”

The U.S. State Department said that Palestinian officials, including Mahmoud Abbas, have not complied with their commitments in prior agreements for peace with Israel. The ministry referred to pursuing cases against Israel at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, and to paying stipends to the families of prisoners.

On Thursday, the UN General Assembly approved Abbas presenting his speech via video, with 152 votes in favor, three against, and four abstentions.
