❌— Trump, in remarks to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, said that the United States is reviewing its position regarding the Falkland Islands; these statements came after reports were published that Trump threatened Britain that if it did not change its position, he would withdraw recognition of British sovereignty over these islands.
When Trump was asked about this, he said:
“I'm always reviewing my position on all issues. This is just one of several matters.”
The United States has not taken sides, officially, in the dispute over these islands and has a neutral stance; however, in practice, it recognizes British sovereignty over the islands. Argentina also claims these islands, calling them “Las Malvinas.”
