Trump signs two executive orders to limit citizenship by birth on U.S. soil

🔸 Donald Trump, the U.S. president, signed two executive orders on Thursday, 16 Mordad, in a new attempt to curb the right to citizenship based on birth on U.S. soil, after the U.S. Supreme Court had previously rejected his earlier effort.

🔸 Limiting “birthright citizenship” has been one of the main priorities of the Trump administration in dealing with immigration.

🔸 The White House has in particular targeted a phenomenon it calls “birth tourism,” meaning trips by foreign pregnant women to the United States to give birth.

🔸 After failing in the Supreme Court on June 30, Trump asked Congress to act, but on Thursday he signed two executive orders in this regard.

🔸 The Supreme Court had deemed his previous order—aimed at a broad range of illegal or temporary immigrants—unconstitutional.
