The UN Secretary-General asked the Islamic Republic and the United States to resume negotiations as soon as possible in order to reach a peaceful and lasting agreement.

Speaking on Monday at a press briefing, Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for António Guterres, said this in response to a question about the end of the 60-day deadline of the memorandum of understanding dated 27 Khordad between the two countries.

He added: “He calls on the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States to resume negotiations as soon as possible to reach a peaceful and lasting agreement, to avoid military action, and also to reduce the level of rhetoric that we are hearing in recent days.”
