The US special envoy said that the issue of territory is the most unresolved matter in the efforts to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.

Jared Kushner, on Saturday, said in a video broadcast for the “Yalta European Strategy” conference in Kyiv: “Territory will be the main issue, and the two sides are still far apart on this point.”

Kushner added that the rest of the deal package is ready: “Let’s assume the two sides were ready to reach an agreement on territory. I think the rest of the defined agreement should be in place.”

He said: “Vladimir Putin has drawn the line that he wants to reach. If Ukraine wants to move back to that line, the rest of the agreement is ready. Ukraine does not want that at this time.”

Kushner said the United States’ role as a mediator is to find a “creative solution” that would not violate Kyiv’s demands while at the same time bringing Russia to end the fighting.

Kyrilo Budanov, the head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, told reporters on the sidelines of the same conference that Kyiv is preparing for the resumption of trilateral talks in Mehr (October).
