Witkoff: A round of talks with Iran ended; Trump’s welcome and simultaneous threat regarding the digging of Colng-Gezla

🔸 The U.S. president, hours after speaking at the UN General Assembly, a significant part of which was devoted to the topic of Iran, also told leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in a meeting that there has been “a lot of momentum” toward reaching an agreement with Iran.

🔸 Donald Trump, at the same time, once again threatened that if activity is seen at the underground facilities in Mount Kolng-Gezla, the United States will “immediately” target it.

🔸 In the meeting, held early on Wednesday, the first of Mehr, Iranian time, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Mr. Trump referred to calls made with Iran through intermediaries and said that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner had “very constructive” meetings with the intermediaries involved in the discussions with Iran.

🔸 Hours earlier, in his public address, he had said that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had met with an Iranian delegation and said that their “three-hour” meeting had been “very constructive.”

🔸 Hours after this meeting, Steve Witkoff sent a message on the X network with more details about the contacts on Tuesday and stressed that the talks between the two sides were carried out via intermediaries.

🔸 He wrote: “Today on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, through intermediaries, we had extensive discussions with the Iranian delegation. Throughout the day, the intermediaries were going back and forth between the two sides.”

🔸 Witkoff added: “They successfully concluded a round of talks, which we hope will be constructive and hopeful. The intermediaries will continue their efforts.”

🔸 Ismail Baqai, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also said on Wednesday morning that this interaction took place through a “Qatari intermediary.”

🔸 He claimed that the purpose of these contacts was to convey “Iran’s conditions,” and among these conditions he listed an end to the war on all fronts, a stop to U.S. attacks, a naval blockade, economic warfare, and the release of Iran’s assets.
