🔻The World Health Organization has warned that the latest Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo began at least three months before it was officially announced, meaning health officials are still working to make up for delays in responding to the disease.

Since the official announcement of the outbreak on 25 Ordibehesht, more than 1,900 people have died after becoming infected with the virus, and the event has become the second-largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak in history.

The rate of infections remains high, which further heightens concern that officials are facing serious difficulties in controlling the spread of the disease.

The main focus of this outbreak, which is related to the “Bundibugyo” strain of the Ebola virus, is located in eastern DRC. In this region, insecurity has disrupted efforts to control the disease.
