Severe fires in forests across various parts of Europe, including France, Spain, and Greece, have caused economic losses and damage amounting to between €15.6 billion and €19.1 billion (equal to $18 billion to $22 billion).

Jonathan Porter, head of the AccuWeather meteorological institute, said that extreme heat and persistent drought caused large forest areas in France, Spain, and Greece to be consumed by fire. According to him, as a result of these fires, more than 500,000 hectares of land were burned.

Based on data from the European Forest Fire Information System, France and Spain saw intense fires, but countries such as the UK have also experienced such incidents. In the UK, 22,000 hectares of forest were destroyed by the fires.

An unprecedented fire near the metropolitan area of Bordeaux, France, meant that 224,000 people were forced to evacuate from an area of 420 square kilometers.
