A flight was canceled and it returned to Tehran following the closure of the airspace of the Republic of Azerbaijan;

Based on a video released on social media, the airspace of the Republic of Azerbaijan was closed to a flight of the airline “Wares” that was heading from Tehran to Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

The aircraft changed course and landed at Imam Khomeini International Airport, and the aforementioned flight was canceled.

On 17 Shahrivar, the U.S. Treasury Department, as part of a package known as “Economic Exclusion Operations,” issued new guidelines and placed all 27 active airlines of the Islamic Republic—including Iran Air, Aseman, Iran Air Tours, Qeshm Air, Sepehran, Zagros, and Mahan Air—under definitive secondary sanctions.

In addition to broad sanctions on all air carriers of the Islamic Republic, nine foreign entities and individuals in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan were also added to the blacklist of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department for allegedly facilitating the procurement of parts and the transfer of aircraft for Mahan Air’s fleet.
