A government aviation agency in Azerbaijan has announced the complete suspension of flights by Iranian airlines to this country.

The regulatory body, in an official statement, said the decision was made following the imposition of restrictions arising from the new U.S. sanctions package on the aviation industry of the Islamic Republic, and that Iranian airlines are no longer allowed to fly to destinations in Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Turkey, Georgia, and some Arab countries in the region had officially announced the suspension of flights by the airlines of the Islamic Republic to these countries.

The new package of U.S. sanctions against the aviation industry of the Islamic Republic has been implemented from the beginning of Mehr month, with the aim of completely cutting off Iran’s air routes to foreign countries.
