Between 2016 and after that, Asghar Ali began planting plants at his home, after his mother told him she wanted to have a “lush garden” at home.

Mr. Ali, whose mother lives with him, initially rejected the request because, in his view, they did not have “enough space” at home to create a garden.

Mr. Ali’s mother was disappointed by that remark and fell silent.

Mr. Ali told BBC Urdu: “When I looked at my mother, I found enthusiasm.”

Since then, he has planted and cared for more than 5,700 plants.

The cost of the project to create a garden at Mr. Ali’s home is more than $14,000.
