A Spanish F-18 fighter pilot, during a NATO air patrol mission, shot down a drone that had illegally entered Romania’s airspace.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense said on Sunday that this was the fourth drone this country has shot down this year.

Based on a statement from the ministry, radars recorded the drone’s entry from Moldova and at about 24 kilometers north of Galați, in southeastern Romania.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense added that debris from the drone appears to have fallen in an uninhabited area between two villages. The drone’s origin was not announced.

Romania has a 614-kilometer land border with Ukraine and in the past four years has repeatedly seen the entry of Russian drones into its airspace. Russian floating mines have also been seen in the Black Sea along key commercial and energy routes.
