Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, in a video interview provided a new account of the ninth of Esfand attack on the residence of Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, and said that in this attack the building where he and Zahra Haddad Adel, his wife, were present was targeted.
Zakani said that Zahra Haddad Adel did not leave the house in time to go to school due to a “headache” and was killed in the attack, while Mojtaba Khamenei only suffered “minor” injuries.
This account differs from earlier reports about the place where Zahra Haddad Adel was killed. It had previously been announced that she was killed in the attack on the Leader’s residence, along with a number of members of the family of Ali Khamenei, including Mersabah al-Huda Baqeri Kani and Bishra Khamenei.
Mohsen Qomi, deputy for international communications at the office of the leader of the Islamic Republic, also previously offered a different account of how Mojtaba Khamenei survived. He said that during the attack Mojtaba Khamenei was in a building where other residents were killed, but had gone to the courtyard minutes before the attack.
