American media reported that the head of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States (CIA), during a trip to Moscow, asked Russia to refrain from attacks on Baltic countries and to reduce its military and economic support for the Islamic Republic.

Politico, citing two sources familiar with the matter and a British official whose name was not disclosed, wrote that John Ratcliffe, this week on a previously unannounced trip to Moscow, warned Russian officials not to escalate a confrontation with America’s allies in NATO.

One of the sources familiar with the matter said: “The main purpose of the meeting was to warn Russia against any destabilizing action against Baltic countries.”

CBS News, citing sources familiar with the matter, also reported that the purpose of Ratcliffe’s trip was to warn Russia not to attack NATO member countries.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal had reported on Wednesday that during his trip Ratcliffe warned about an attack on NATO member countries, but it did not provide further details.
