Babak Khati, a doctor and pediatric specialist, referring to the Pezeshkian government’s announcement to add half a percent of methanol to base gasoline due to a shortage of fuel, said that how dangerous the issue is depends on the concentration and the amount of exposure people have to gasoline, but methanol can damage the optic nerve and the liver and, in severe cases, can lead to permanent blindness.

He said people who are directly exposed to methanol vapors and fuel are at greater risk, and the use of methanol can cause eye complications, dizziness, impaired consciousness, and respiratory problems, including worsening asthma and bronchitis.
