Mohammadmehdi Boromandi, deputy of the Minister of Agriculture Jihad for horticulture, said the pilot cultivation of Elivra poppy on nearly 10 hectares of state-owned land was successful, and the results showed that this plant has an appropriate capacity to supply pharmaceutical raw materials and produce morphine.

He added that the pilot cultivation was carried out in parallel with the country’s wartime conditions, but despite the limitations, scientific and technical assessments were conducted successfully and acceptable results were obtained.

Boromandi said that, based on the decisions made, the cultivation of Elivra poppy will be possible only on state-owned lands.

He announced that the main objective of implementing this plan is to provide domestic pharmaceutical raw materials, reduce dependence on foreign sources, and create a sustainable pathway to meet the needs of the country’s pharmaceutical industries.
