CBS News, in the program “60 Minutes,” published details about the downing of an American F-15 fighter in southern Isfahan and the operation by the U.S. Army and the Central Intelligence Agency to rescue its two crew members.

Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, said the fighter was targeted during a mission to attack industrial facilities linked to the Islamic Republic’s unmanned drone and missile program on the evening of Farvardin 13. CBS said the cause of its downing was a shoulder-fired missile.

The two crew members exited the aircraft, and U.S. forces extracted the pilot from Iran about six hours later. The second crew member, under the operational name “Bravo,” after the parachute was damaged, suffered a fracture and made it to higher elevations. CBS reported that forces of the Islamic Republic advanced to within several hundred meters of him, and that the CIA played a role in deflecting the searches through deception operations.

According to Cooper, more than 90 American service members entered Iran to rescue Bravo. After his rescue, two U.S. aircraft were immobilized on a temporary runway, and the U.S. Army destroyed them and the Little Bird helicopters so that their equipment would not fall into the hands of the forces of the Islamic Republic.
