CENTCOM said American forces carried out an action to counter what it called a “near-imminent threat”

CENTCOM said American forces carried out a “limited and precise” operation to counter what it described as a “near-imminent threat” posed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ mine-laying forces in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ statement calling the American attack a “aggressive act,” CENTCOM called the position “completely wrong” and said Iran created the threat and the U.S. Army removed it in order to protect non-civilian seafarers, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global trade.

The position is related to the Aug. 8 attack by American forces on two IRGC missile launchers on Larak Island. U.S. officials said the launchers were being prepared for mine-laying in the Strait of Hormuz.
