🔶 China opposes U.S. sanctions against Iran’s airline companies

Guo Jiaqun, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, September 22 (Shahrivar 31), at a press conference, expressed Beijing’s opposition to the decision announced by the U.S. Treasury Department to impose sanctions on Iranian airline companies and, while calling the move "illegal," condemned it.

At the press conference, he said: «China has always opposed unilateral and illegal sanctions that do not comply with international law and have not been endorsed by the UN Security Council.»

China’s diplomatic position in this case was made ahead of the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, leaders of the United States and China. The presidents of the United States and China are expected to meet and hold talks with each other this week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Scott Bessent, U.S. Treasury Secretary, had previously announced that the activities of all commercial airlines in Iran would be halted globally starting Wednesday, September 23 (October 1).
