🔶 Continued environmental pollution caused by an oil spill in the Strait of Hormuz

In the Strait of Hormuz, a disputed area between the United States and Iran, threats to the environment remain large and serious.

According to information announced by Greenpeace to Deutschlandfunk, following the analysis of recent satellite images, a new oil slick—among others on the side of Oman and in the protected area of the national park “Musandam”—is expanding.

Earlier satellite images had also recorded several other oil slicks on the Iranian side of the strait and opposite the protected areas of Tiaab and Minab.

A little lower down, and outside the Strait of Hormuz, oil that has leaked from the damaged tanker “Caroline Bezengi” has now reached the coasts of Oman. The ship is categorized among the so-called “shadow fleet” of Russia.

The cause of the oil leak from the Caroline Bezengi ship remains unknown; as does the unanswered question of whether the other oil slicks were the result of military clashes.
