Deployment of Iraqi army tanks in Baghdad’s Green Zone to counter potential operations by militias;
Amid fears of retaliatory attacks by militias backed by the Islamic Republic, the Iraq Counter-Terrorism Service forces deployed in the Green Zone of Baghdad and near the city’s international airport, using armored vehicles and the army’s tanks.
At the same time, the spokesman for Iraq’s armed forces stressed that permission would not be granted to use the soil of this country to threaten neighboring countries.
Sabah al-Numan said that any threat carried out from Iraqi soil toward neighboring countries is an illegal act.
Recent attacks by Iraqi militias on facilities in Saudi Arabia, which drew widespread condemnation in the region, were met with joint airstrikes by Saudi Arabia and the United States.
