Donald Trump’s welcome for Xi Jinping; the US-China commercial truce will be extended

🔸Xi Jinping, the President of China, arrived in Washington for an official trip and a meeting with Donald Trump, and the US president welcomed him at Andrews Air Force Base.

🔸The two leaders of the world’s two largest economies are scheduled to meet at the White House on Thursday, September 2, and discuss issues ranging from trade and tariffs to Taiwan, artificial intelligence, and the Iran war.

🔸This is the second meeting between Trump and Xi this year and Xi Jinping’s first trip to Washington in more than a decade.

🔸It is the first time in 11 years that a US president has gone to this base to welcome a foreign leader. The last time was in 2015, when Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis there.

🔸After arriving in the United States, Xi Jinping expressed hope that relations between Beijing and Washington would become more stable and said the two countries should be «partners, not rivals.»

🔸Before the meeting of the two presidents, senior economic officials of the two countries reached an agreement to extend the commercial truce.
