Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran must compensate the families of protestors killed in Iran, including “hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters” who have been killed over the past half century, including “52,000 people” who have been killed in the past five months. President Trump said this in a segment of a message he published on Monday on Truth Social. Trump said, “This issue will no longer be merely a verbal response to Iran’s regime’s demands, and will become part of the United States’ official position in negotiations.” Trump published the message while saying that representatives of the Islamic Republic have demanded compensation. He wrote: “I have instructed my representatives to raise this issue (obtaining compensation from the Islamic Republic) firmly in all future negotiations.” The U.S. president said the demand will include victims of attacks and clashes in which the Islamic Republic played a role. He specifically referred to Americans who were killed or severely wounded in attacks involving roadside bombs; and he pointed to the role of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, in directing these actions.
