EU naval forces inspected the oil tanker MV SUN in the Mediterranean Sea on August 30, because they were suspicious that the tanker was operating under a fake flag and violating international maritime laws.

The inspection, carried out by the IRINI operation to verify the validity of the flag, is the sixth suspicious vessel in Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” that has been inspected by EU forces in recent months.

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said that actions against Russia’s “shadow fleet” will be among the issues discussed at a meeting of EU defense ministers to be held on Tuesday in Ireland.
