Following the Islamic Republic’s military threats against American forces in the region, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces announced that a $30,000 reward will be set for killing or capturing American military personnel, and said that the amount will be double for female servicemembers.

Hoshang Hassan-Yari, a Middle East and military affairs expert, said that if the Islamic Republic were able to target American forces, there would be no need to set a bounty. He added that these remarks, rather than being practical, indicate confusion in the decision-making of the Islamic Republic’s leaders. Samiei also said that doubling the reward for female servicemembers is a sign of the Islamic Republic’s contradictory view of women’s rights.
