Representatives of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, met in Cairo on Sunday with Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators.

A diplomatic source told Reuters that the aim of these meetings was to advance Trump’s peace plan for Gaza.

As Reuters reported, the talks took place while Israel continued its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

The diplomat said officials from Hamas were also present at some of the mediators’ meetings with Jared Kushner, Trump’s representative and his son-in-law, and Nikolay Mladenov, the representative of Trump’s peace team for Gaza.

A senior Israeli official also said Kushner and Mladenov are expected to meet with Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, on Monday. Netanyahu had said last week that Trump’s new roadmap for peace in Gaza was “unacceptable.”
