🔸 Germany’s parliamentary vice president calls for amnesty for activists of the PKK’s convicted members

Bodo Ramelow, vice president of the German parliament (Bundestag), called on his country’s government to support the peace process between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the PKK.

Speaking to the newspaper “Rheinische Post,” Ramelow, a politician from the Left party, said that in Germany, similar to Turkey, rules should be implemented for the amnesty of activists of this group.

The remarks come at a time when Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party has submitted a bill to the parliament of that country as part of efforts to achieve peace with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the PKK. The bill is aimed at “creating legal frameworks, including for the release of convicted PKK members and their renewed social reintegration,” it was stated.

After a call by Abdullah Öcalan, the founder of the party, the PKK announced its dissolution in February 2025 and ended its decades-long armed struggle against the Turkish government. Since 1984, at least 50,000 people have been killed in clashes between the PKK and the Turkish army.
