🔶 Ghalibaf in Baghdad: A new order for the region is taking shape

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Parliament, on Wednesday, 28 Mordad (19 August), at the start of his trip to Iraq, claimed that the region is moving toward a new security order in which the role and interference of foreign powers are decreasing at speed.

Ghalibaf’s trip to Baghdad has coincided with the disarmament of Iran’s proxy forces in Iraq. Three proxy groups under Iranian influence—Kata’ib Hezbollah, Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, and Harakat al-Nujaba—have refused to hand over their weapons.

Regarding whether Ghalibaf raised this issue with Iraqi officials or not, no official report has been published so far.

The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament described the so-called “resistance” groups in Iraq as one of the country’s elements of power and said his trip was carried out with the aim of strengthening cooperation among regional countries without the interference of foreign players.

Ali Zaydi, the Iraqi Prime Minister, has announced that despite security threats, he will not back down from his plan to place all weapons and Shiite armed groups under the command of the state.
