Head of Pezeshkian’s office: Free fuel price is expensive and fuel ration will be reduced

🔸Mohsen Hajim Rezaee, head of Masoud Pezeshkian’s office, says that fuel rations for cars in Iran will be reduced and the price of free (unrationed) gasoline will increase.

🔸He said, adding that the government is reviewing the price of non-ration gasoline: «Definitely, the gasoline ration will be reduced to some extent. The rationed gasoline price will not change, but the non-ration gasoline price will increase.»

🔸Meanwhile, Ismail Saqaf Esfahani, head of the Organization for Optimization and Strategic Energy Management, also, on the X social network, in response to experts’ criticism about gasoline, said that «Of course, the situation must be assessed wisely.»

🔸He added: «From now on, it will no longer be possible to hide behind false statistics or swap low-cost and high-cost scenarios. From now on, reliable polls can be the basis for decision-making.»

🔸The deputy president of Iran further said that the president’s emphasis is «no surprises like 98». His reference is to the sudden increase in the gasoline price in November 2019 [Aban 1398]—which led to nationwide protests in Iran—and the government’s reaction to those protests was also a bloody crackdown.

🔸In recent weeks, the price of free gasoline in Kerman was increased experimentally, but a few hours after implementing the plan, it was abruptly stopped, and the reason given was to prevent a «surprise» for citizens.

🔸Mohammad Reza Aref, first vice president of Iran, also, on the first day of Shahrivar, called the removal of gasoline subsidies «a good move», but said that if people oppose the increase in fuel prices, this action will not be carried out.

🔸These remarks come after reports about Masoud Pezeshkian’s government preparing to set the free price of gasoline for the «fourth ration» of cars.

🔸Two days ago, Pezeshkian, referring to the impact of the U.S. naval blockade and the «financial restrictions» on the export and import, said: «Who said the government should buy gasoline for 130,000 tomans and then sell it for 1,500 tomans?»

🔸Scott Bessent, U.S. Treasury Secretary, predicted shortly after the blockade of Iran’s ports that the country would face a gasoline crisis.

🔸In recent weeks, reports from citizens on social media have also indicated a shortage of gasoline in some areas and the formation of long queues for gasoline at some fuel stations.
