In a vote, Iceland voted against restarting negotiations to join the European Union, 13 years after membership talks were suspended.

52.8% voted against the government’s proposal to restart the negotiations, while 47.2% were in favor—an difference equivalent to about 12,600 votes.

More than 225,000 people took part and the voter turnout reached 82.5%, which is considered the highest figure recorded in an Icelandic election since 2009.
