🔻 U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Denies IRGC Mine Strike on a Supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz

CENTCOM, the U.S. military’s Central Command, denied that a supertanker had collided with two naval mines while transiting the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz and had completely stopped.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had said in a statement hours earlier that a supertanker “suffered horrific fires due to two naval mines and was completely stopped.”

In a post on the X social network, CENTCOM, rejecting the claim, wrote: “No vessel has struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz. This is also another of the IRGC’s efforts to frighten and intimidate commercial shipping in the region by spreading misinformation.”

The IRGC had threatened that the fate of ships that violate the security rules of the Strait of Hormuz would be no different.

The IRGC did not name the ship or provide details on the time of the incident. The shipping-monitoring entities also did not publish a report about an incident involving a vessel early Monday morning.

TankersTrackers, a tanker-tracking institute, says that a Kuwaiti supertanker named Borkan—one that Iran has claimed struck mines—is stopped near Umm al-Ghanem Island.
