🔶In an unprecedented meeting, Jared Kushner met with the head of Hamas

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, on Sunday began a new effort to advance a ceasefire proposal with the head of Hamas in Egypt in a rare meeting. The negotiations are aimed at saving a 15-point roadmap backed by the United States.

Under this plan, Hamas must be disarmed in Gaza, and Israel must also withdraw its forces from the region.

In recent weeks, this roadmap has run into a deadlock due to disagreements over the disarmament of Hamas and the manner of Israel’s pullback from Gaza.

A regional official and a Hamas official, both on the condition that their names not be disclosed, confirmed Kushner’s meeting with Khalil al-Hayya, the head of Hamas. According to these officials, Kushner was one of three envoys who met with al-Hayya.
