IRGC says a giant oil tanker caught fire and became fully immobilized after hitting two sea mines

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said a giant oil tanker caught fire and became completely unable to move after striking two sea mines in the south of the Strait of Hormuz.

Based on a statement published by Iran’s state television, the IRGC claimed that the vessel was trying to illegally transit through the strait.

The statement said: “A giant oil tanker that was trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz’s southern route illegally collided with two sea mines, resulting in a widespread fire and coming to a complete stop.”

The IRGC warned that other vessels that violate its security rules will face the same fate.

In recent months, the IRGC has repeatedly attacked ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
