Kamyar Behrang, a member of the editorial board of Iran International, referring to Tasnim’s report about the meeting between Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff, said it is unlikely that such talks took place without coordination with senior institutions.

He added that publishing this report could be a sign of internal differences over how to deal with the United States, and an attempt to shift responsibility for the outcomes of the negotiations onto Araghchi and Masoud Pezeshkian.

Behrang also, referring to the timing of Xi Jinping’s trip to the United States and the United Nations General Assembly, said the meeting is of great importance for Washington and Beijing from an economic and strategic standpoint. He added that, in his view, the expanding cooperation between the United States and China in some cases, including Iran, could affect the equations related to the Islamic Republic.
