🔻Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, says that the third-stage gasoline price, after coordination with various institutions, will increase from 5,000 tomans to 10,000 tomans and will not go beyond that figure.

Mr. Pezeshkian on Friday evening, in a televised interview, rejected reports about a “astronomical” increase in gasoline prices and said that the third-stage gasoline price, after coordination with institutions and various organizations, will double.

He did not specify the time when this price increase would take effect.

The president of Iran linked the gasoline-supply situation to wartime conditions and reduced revenues for the country, and said that with routes being closed, importing goods including gasoline has encountered problems.

Mr. Pezeshkian also said that Iran’s imports and exports have decreased by 25 to 35 percent and added, “Economists know” what consequences such a decline has for the country’s economy. He said that during the period of implementing the Islamabad understandings, Iran had sold close to 90 million barrels of oil, but that now it is no longer possible to make such sales.

He said the government is reviewing different methods to manage this situation and emphasized that a decision must be made that will put the least pressure on people’s lives.
