🔶 هشدار مرکل درباره قدرت‌گیری AfD: برای دموکراسی بجنگید

The former German chancellor, pointing to AfD’s rise to power and the election campaign in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, asked Germans to step onto the scene to defend democracy. According to a poll, if AfD were to become the central governing force, “one in five would emigrate.”

Angela Merkel, the former chancellor of Germany, called for Germans to make an effort to defend democracy in a week before elections for the state parliament in Saxony-Anhalt.

Merkel, who has called for defending the legacy of democracy in her country, did so while support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in polls in Saxony-Anhalt has reached 40%; a party whose several of its state branches have been classified as “definitely far-right.”

Speaking on Saturday, August 29 (September 7) at an event in Berlin, the Christian Democratic Party politician said: “I think we now have to do again what we haven’t needed to do for several decades, and really fight for this democracy, step onto the scene for it, be a bit courageous too... and say that this is a fantastic way to live.”

At the same time, she stressed that the majority of people do not vote for the “Alternative for Germany.” Merkel said it is true that AfD is very strong in eastern states of Germany, but it has also become stronger in western states.
