🔶 Unprecedented Heat, a Climate Warning for the Merz Government

After a summer in which heatwaves, drought, wildfires, and falling water levels in parts of Germany’s rivers affected some areas of the country, Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, says the government must do more to curb climate change and prepare better for its consequences.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 25, at the start of a two-day cabinet meeting in Neuhardenberg, near Berlin, Merz said Germany should take “long-term lessons” from the extreme weather conditions of this summer.

At the beginning of the two-day cabinet meeting, Merz said: “We must curb climate change more than ever, and at the same time better adapt ourselves to its consequences.”
