Meysam Mehrani, a political analyst, said that referring to the commitment of Iraqi armed groups to halt operations, it is still too early to talk about the disarmament of these groups. He said that real disarmament is not limited to the handover of weapons, but rather that the arms depots, heavy weapons, command chains, and their ability to make independent decisions should also be placed at the disposal of the Iraqi government.
He said these groups, in addition to their military capabilities, have influence in Iraq’s parliament, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), its economy, and politics, and that they have created a network of power. For this reason, the Iraqi government has adopted a gradual process and is focusing first on stopping operations.
