Proeiz Sorouri, deputy chairman of the Tehran City Council, told the website of Dideban Iran: “I would be very happy to hear that the Islamic Republic has moved toward nuclear weapons for deterrence, not to create danger for other countries.”

The deputy chairman of the Tehran City Council said: “Today we have reached a good level of deterrence, but the enemy still uses its nuclear capabilities to threaten Iran.”

Proeiz Sorouri also added: “I believe that our presence in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) has brought us no benefits so far.”

He stated that whether the Islamic Republic should leave the NPT under current conditions or not depends on the decision of officials.

The deputy chairman of the Tehran City Council also said: “We must strengthen everything that creates problems for the enemy and turn it into deterrent power.”
