🔶 Reaction by Qalibaf to the new U.S. economic campaign against Iran

Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, Iran’s senior negotiator and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, on Monday evening, 2 Shahrivar (24 August), wrote in reaction to the new sanctions against Iran in a post on the X social network: “The United States is in no economic condition in which it would want to further restrict its relations with other countries than this.”

Qalibaf added: “Iran’s trading partners, both in the media and by sending us messages, have told us that they do not take these remarks anywhere into account.”

These remarks appear to be a reaction to statements by Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, who, at his press conference, said that as part of a broad economic campaign against Iran, Trump is contacting leaders of various countries around the world and asking them to stop their interactions with the Islamic Republic.
