Reuters reported that Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury secretary, intends to pressure the member countries of the Group of 20 to intensify pressure on Tehran, including by cutting commercial relations with the Islamic Republic.

Reuters wrote: “The U.S. Treasury secretary wants to put Tehran at the center of attention and talk about escalating sanctions.”

According to this report, a meeting of the finance ministers and central bank governors of the Group of 20 will be held on Monday and Tuesday. The meeting will take place amid uncertainty about the next tariff measures by Donald Trump, the U.S. president, as the U.S.’ trade war with Canada continues and energy and commodity prices rise as a result of the Iran war.
