Reza Goharzad, journalist and political analyst, told Iran International about the assessment by US officials regarding the lack of strategic calculations in Tehran, saying that the Islamic Republic has not had a clear strategy for a long time and that its only goal is to preserve the system.

Pointing to the role of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the power structure, he believes that the main decision-making is in the hands of this institution. Goharzad also examines the impact of the US midterm elections on Tehran’s calculations and on Donald Trump’s policies regarding the continuation of the war.
